Have you ever wondered what lies within the dark crevasses of this world? Beneath the waves of the uncharted sea, or the in the heart of the Siberian wastes. In these places, creatures of darkness are born, and when we wander into the dark. We are bound to run in with the unknown. We will try to bring light to these creatures, to understand them, but most importantly, to see if they really are as scary as they are made out to be. Are you too afraid to take the jump with us? I hope not, we would love to have you along for the ride.
Why do you think now is a good time for a podcast of this type? Well, Paranormal Activity is an always active market with the constant interest and reintroduction to the genre with movies releasing what seems like bi-weekly. The idea of fear has always been a great motivator for us as a species since we are the top of the food chain. With modern day technology and a seemingly unlimited access to resources and information, the idea of something unexplainable is frightening. Going back to the bi-weekly movies, a new Skinwalker movie is being released this year (2020) which should garner more interest in Navajo witchcraft. As of 2012, horror was the 7th largest movie category, grossing 413 million dollars in the U.S alone. Without a doubt people like being scared. But the paranormal is not always a visual fright, it sometimes is used to reflect our assumptions about certain topics such our bodies. They thrive in the unnatural, the unknown. As humans we have a drive to figure things out, to learn, and to understand, and what’s better than that thrill of something new. A wrench if you will, thrown into the gears of your perception of the world. Changing the way you think even if by a little. Goodness knows that something to break the monotony of COVID times would be a warm welcome, even if the subject is anything but warm. This podcast will serve as an introduction, one that will start our listeners on their own adventure of the paranormal, and it will allow them to try and understand the mysterious entities we will be discussing.
Why should we be the ones to write and perform this podcast? This subject has piqued our interests since our childhood, and the idea to be able to explore and discuss these illustrious topics would be a great honour. We have effective workers and keen seekers of knowledge. We are extremely excited to get to bring honour and interest to an idea that has plagued us for a week. We also want to share our interest with others in a manner that is both enjoyable and informative. We strive to embark on a journey, for which the entire class and whomever so chooses may accompany us down the road of horror. We aim not to scare you, but to give you an idea in your head that is scarier than anything we could possibly come up with visually. The brain is the most complex thing in the universe, and we plan to draw on every single aspect of one’s imagination and fear. The simple question of “why us?” can be answered with a follow up question; why not us?
Why this medium? Well, let us see. What comes to mind when the word horror gets thrown out there? For the average human, they will see their greatest fear. How can we utilize that to our advantage? We take away one of our senses. The loss of sight instantly heightens the fear factor as we can’t associate the characteristic traits to a face or person. It is merely a concept, an idea in our head of what the being should look like based on our preconceptions. We play on that by having human-like creatures such as the Wendigo and the Skinwalker to help give a sense of realism as those creatures were at one point human, and the idea that they were just like us at one point is enough to scare some to peeing their pants. The paranormal has fascinated us for a seeming eternity, a plague upon our minds. An itch for more and more. So now that we get to discuss this, to satisfy our itch and hopefully yours, we bring the enthusiasm and knowledge of our prior paranormal delving. So that when it is the witching hour, when the campfire’s coals are slowly dimming, allowing the darkness to creep closer and closer. We will urge you to sit and to listen to our stories. Stories of ghosts and monsters. But there is no need to be afraid, and there is nothing behind you during this, because the only thing behind you is the darkness, and there is no need to be afraid of the dark. There is only a need to be afraid of what the darkness conceals, something that may, or may not exist, but should be feared, nonetheless.
