Our team consists of three high school students from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary: Amber, Elisabeth, and Michael. With all of us being in New Media 11, we decided to come together and tell a story to the audience that is very important to us. We have done countless hours of research to bring all points of view of this story to life. Growing up in a fairly large city and being exposed to so many heavy topics about society in school, we decided to create a podcast based on Gabby Petito’s story. Her life story, as well as domestic abuse, are the main topics of conversation. Her memoir is overflowing with lessons about people, society, and the harsh realities many have faced and are currently facing now.
For the length of our podcast, we will have one season following a nine-episode structure. We’ll start with an introduction episode where we discuss how domestic abuse is intertwined with this case and we’ll have a special guest CarolAnn Peterson joining us. We’ll follow the intro with three episodes focused on the biographical dives of key people related to the case, as well as another present case that is discussed. Episode four follows Gabby and Brian on their road trip across the United States. In episodes five, six, and seven, we discuss Gabby and Brian’s lives after their road trip.

Our main motivation behind the creation of this podcast is to spread Gabby’s story and inform our audience about domestic abuse. CarolAnn Peterson, a professional in this field, shared her knowledge, advice, and experience on this topic. “It is a pattern of behaviour where someone is trying coerce a partner: whether it’s an intimate partner, husband, spouse, or even just dating”. CarolAnn Peterson states her definition of intimate partner violence and how the actions people do are not always physical. The abuser can use physical, emotional, or financial violence, and some may even use children as a strategy for domestic abuse. It is our mission to help and inform our listeners about domestic abuse, specifically intimate partner violence, and Ms. Peterson provided us with information that will truly help you understand this situation more.
