Caught in the Web

In a world where everyone’s connected, danger hides in plain sight.

We’re Alina, Lia, Sav, Nashii, and Reetie — high school students from Vancouver, BC and part of the first generation raised online. Our podcast pulls back the digital curtain to reveal how predators lurk in the very spaces we use every day, manipulating, grooming, and exploiting without being seen.

We’re constantly told to “just be careful” and “stay safe” online — but no one ever really taught us how. So we spent the last semester — every block, every afternoon, late nights— trying to figure out what online safety actually looks like for teens today.

Our podcast goes deep into the web’s dark corners — where likes, DMs, and “friendly” messages can twist into something dangerous and criminal. At times, our research felt invasive, even unsettling. We’ve asked other teens and our peers about secret relationships, late-night calls that stretch till morning, and about the people they trust most — people they’ve never actually met. Most times it’s harmless texting. Sometimes it’s not. Online friendships blur into obsession. Conversations slip into secrecy. And what once felt safe? Turns threatening — fast.

We’re not experts — we’re witnesses. We’ve seen how quickly trust becomes control, how predators hide behind pixels, and how silence keeps them protected. So we’re breaking that silence — starting with this podcast, Caught in the Web.

Each of us has taken on our own unique beat to dive into — researching, gathering stories, and uncovering insights that speak to our individual interests. By exploring different angles, we’re able to bring a mix of voices and perspectives to the table, giving our podcast a dynamic range of topics and ideas. Together, our combined work creates a more complete picture for our listeners, offering something fresh and engaging in every episode.
